Valley Packaging Ind., Inc. (VPI) Board of Directors today announced that Bob Russo will retire as President and CEO on June 1, 2017.  The Board of Directors has appointed Pat Buckley to be the company’s next President and CEO, effective June 2nd. Buckley currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer.

Rita McComber, VPI Board Chair said, “The Board of Directors wants to thank Bob for the invaluable contributions he’s made to VPI during his 30 years of service as President and CEO. His leadership and passionate dedication to our mission have helped the organization grow and have a significant impact on the community. We wish him a long and happy, well-deserved retirement.

We are very pleased to have Pat Buckley succeed Bob and continue his service to VPI in this new role. He has proven himself as COO and will bring the same commitment and expertise to this position.”

Russo began his work with VPI as rehabilitation director in 1978 and left after one year to return to his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. In 1985 Russo returned to VPI in the same capacity and was named President two years later in 1987. Russo noted, “It has been a real honor and privilege to serve Valley Packaging all these years and words can’t express how much I appreciate the role that all of our dedicated employees, board members and customers have played in helping this organization achieve its mission and be such an important part of our community. I am extremely humbled and proud of what we have accomplished together.”

Valley Packaging, a private non-profit rehabilitation center, was founded in 1956 and its mission is “To promote the dignity and worth of individuals who have disabilities or are disadvantaged and to assist them in developing their optimum level of social, vocational and economic independence in the community.” Bob shared the vision of the founding fathers of VPI, along with his predecessors, which has led to significant growth and success during his 30 plus years. He credits all the many employees over the years for their valuable contribution to VPI’s success and believes that the future is very bright under the new leadership of Buckley. Russo states that “Pat and I have been working closely together over the past several years and I can tell you that he is a ‘good guy’, extremely talented, and is dedicated and committed to Valley Packaging, both its employees and its mission. Pat is a great fit for this organization.”
